Each week during Lent we will be sharing different ways we celebrate Lent, and during this time each of us will answer a series of questions and share what it means to us.
What have been some meaningful lent experiences:
For me, lent isn’t about a legalistic religious observance of a holiday. Lent is a time for me to set something aside to prepare my heart for the celebration of Easter.
The very first time I observed Lent, I gave up chocolate. Honestly, I decided to try it because a friend of mine was doing it. But, it taught me so much. At first, I must admit, it was very difficult. At the time, I was a self proclaimed chocoholic.
Here are the lessons I learned during this experience:
- When I sacrifice a little something of my day, it allows me to focus more of my thoughts and attention towards Christ.
- Lent has nothing to do with me, or what I do or don’t do. Lent is all about Jesus, and focusing on what He has done.
- I need more discipline in my life. Lent gives me a great opportunity to practice the spiritual discipline of fasting.
- Lent has shown me that Easter should not be just a day we celebrate in the year. It is a lifestyle of seeking God and remembering how He has victory in and through my life through His resurrection!
Also, don’t forget to get involved with “Give Life For Lent” project. You, your family, and your church or small group can join Give Life for Lent to free and empower girls who suffer abuse and slavery, using the money you’ve saved during Lent! For more information on this visit Karina’s post here.
